Breaking Color

You’re probably wondering what the term “breaking color” actually means? Can you even break a color? Good question. It’s a term derived from 19th century French Impressionists who expressed color by breaking it apart into complimentary colors. The concept is simple. Take this green apple by Allan Chow (www.allanchow.com), instead of painting shades of green, the apple is represented by a collection of colors. The green comes to life with hues of yellow, gold, blue and even hints of red. This breaking of color reminds me of how we express our lives. If we break it apart, it’s nothing more than a collection of colorful experiences that make us who we are. So here we are, a collection of life’s experiences. Or, better yet, one girl’s rants and raves. Welcome to my blog.
